  • Dr Ewan Adam

    General Practitioner & Director

    Dr Ewan has dedicated over 24 years to serving as a doctor, being our long standing doctor, providing compassionate and skilled care to his patients and their families. Throughout his career, he has valued the trust placed in him and the meaningful connections he has built within the community. For him, the most rewarding part of medicine has always been caring for people, supporting them through both challenges and achievements in their health journeys.

    Reflecting on his career, Dr Ewan shares: “Caring for people is the most rewarding part of my career, and it has truly been an honour walking alongside you.” He emphasises that the relationships built with patients over the years have been a privilege and a source of deep personal fulfilment.

    Dr Ewan will be retiring in March 2026. As he prepares for this next chapter, he extends his heartfelt thanks to the many patients and families he has worked with. “I will greatly miss the relationships we have built together. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your healthcare journey — I will always cherish the memories and connections we have shared.”

  • Dr Kirsten Taplin

    General Practitioner & Director

    Dr Kirsten Taplin studied at Otago University and has postgraduate qualifications in Women’s Health and Child Health. She is currently furthering her expertise with a postgraduate qualification in Lifestyle Medicine.

    Passionate about helping people live healthier, longer lives, Dr Taplin enjoys supporting her patients not only when they are unwell, but also in preventing illness and achieving their health goals.

    She believes knowledge is power and works alongside patients to help them make informed, confident decisions about their wellbeing. Outside of work, Kirsten enjoys keeping active and spending quality time with her young family.

  • Dr Rachel Greenwood

    General Practitioner & Director

    Dr Rachel Greenwood completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Otago. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine, a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health, a Certificate in Women’s Health, and is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP).

    Rachel enjoys the variety that general practice offers, from minor surgery to supporting whānau across all stages of life. Her approach to patient care is centred on open and honest communication. She values making patients feel heard and encourages them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right, recognising that misunderstandings can happen but always aiming to improve the experience.

    Outside of work, Rachel is passionate about rowing, spending time with her family, and contributing to the medical community through the Colleague Faculty. She is also actively involved in governance as a Board Member of Rangatahi Tūmeke Trust and a Committee Member of the Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition.

  • Dr Tarryn Keith

    General Practitioner

    Dr Tarryn Keith studied at Otago University in Dunedin and completed her clinical training in Christchurch. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health, a Diploma in Child Health, and a Diploma in Travel Medicine, and is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. Her special interests include paediatrics, women’s health, and travel medicine. She is trained in a range of women’s health procedures, including pipelles, Jadelles, IUCD and pessary insertions — and is a certified Yellow Fever Vaccinator.

    Dr Keith values the variety of general practice and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and their whānau. She is passionate about providing high-quality, evidence-based care with strong communication, compassion, and empathy.

    Outside of work, she enjoys family life with her husband and two young children, and loves hiking, watersports, and playing squash.

  • Dr Callum Fowler

    General Practitioner

    Dr Callum Fowler studied at Otago University, graduating with an MBChB in 2012, and gained his Fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP) in 2020. He has special interests in mental health, neurodivergence, Māori health, chronic pain, and complex biopsychosocial issues.

    Drawn to the variety and continuity of care in general practice, Dr Fowler values the ongoing relationships he builds with patients. He believes this role allows him to be a true “generalist,” offering a wide scope of care rather than specialising in just one area. Passionate and enthusiastic, he is LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming, and is committed to fostering patient empowerment and cultural safety.

    Outside of work, Dr Fowler enjoys skiing, board games, and being involved in the local arts and theatre scene. He and his wife are raising their three daughters, and he treasures time spent with family and community.

  • Dr Kurt Hunderson

    General Practitioner

    Raised in Invercargill, Dr Kurt Henderson holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP), and has a Bachelor of Science (BSc). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy (PGDipSurgAnat) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health (PGCertWHlth).

    Kurt graduated from medical school in 2014 and, after 17 years away, returned home in 2024 to raise his family in Southland. He enjoys the variety that general practice offers, from providing care across all stages of life to building long-term relationships with his patients. Committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, Kurt values the opportunity to support people in both treating illness and maintaining good health.

  • Dr Sarah Beetham

    General Practitioner

    Dr Sarah Beetham completed her medical studies in Dunedin and Christchurch. She enjoys all aspects of general practice. She has undertaken additional training in dermatology and values the variety and continuity that primary care offers. Sarah finds her work most rewarding when she can build lasting relationships with patients and their families.

    Her approach to medicine is evidence-based and patient-centred, ensuring each individual receives care tailored to their needs.

    Outside of work, Sarah lives with her partner and their cat. She enjoys keeping active through exercising, tramping, skiing, frisbee golf, and biking, and loves spending quality time with friends and family.

    Sophie White is a proud Southlander. In her role as Clinic Coordinator at Murihiku Medical Services, she ensures that doctors’ templates run smoothly and that the service maintains enrolments for efficient, high-quality operations. Sophie also supports and oversees the administration team, leading them towards consistent workflow and productivity. Known as the go-to person in the clinic, Sophie is always ready to help and find solutions.

    Outside of work, Sophie enjoys hiking, four-wheel driving, hunting, and fishing. She has a great love for animals, especially her dog, cats and cows.

  • Practice Manager & Chief Operator

    Originally from Mauritius, Steven (Indo-French-African) has proudly called New Zealand home for more than a decade. Trilingual in French, English, and Creole, he brings a rich cultural perspective to his work and community connections.

    Steven’s professional journey began in Mental Health Services, where he progressed to Service Coordinator. He later served as a Bail Support Kaimahi in collaboration with the Department of Corrections and went on to become a BSS Court Advocate in the Criminal Court, working closely with the Ministry of Justice. During this time, Steven also built strong relationships with the local Iwi at Murihiku Marae-deepening his commitment to community-focused service.

    He has undertaken studies in Sociology, Social Services, Economics, Mental Health, and Drugs & Addiction, equipping him with a broad knowledge base to support his professional practice.

    Outside of work, Steven enjoys gardening, hiking, and travelling. As the Chief Operator and Practice Manager at Murihiku Medical Services, he oversees the full operation of the practice, ensuring efficient management, high-quality care, and a seamless experience for both patients and staff.

    In collaboration with Active Southland, we are thrilled to be able to offer our enrolled patients access to free Health Coaching Services delivered at the practice.

    If you would like support in developing and progressing your health goals whether they relate to prevention or an existing health concern, Health Coaching is for you.

  • Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP)

    In collaboration with Well South, we are delighted to be able to offer our enrolled patient access to a Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP). HIPs are qualified and registered health professionals with experience in mental health.

    HIPs help you to develop skills to make positive behavioural changes for your wellbeing. This includes managing stress, thoughts, feelings and behaviours, helping with sleep, alcohol and drug problems. They provide support to all ages including children, youth and their whānau who may have worries or have behavioural concerns.
